Crusty and leaky. The other side was slightly less rusty and not leaking, I think it was replaced at some point a long time ago. There should be a gaiter and bump stop in there.
That’s what’s left of it . New KYB Shocks and Tein Springs have gone in, which should be a good improvement!
I really should have replaced the strut tops as well, but just cleaned them up for now. I got rained off today so that leaves the r ears to do on Monday. MOT is on Thursday with a couple of other jobs to do.

That reminds me. A buddy of mine changed the struts on his then-fiance’s Corolla. Needless to day, they too, were shot.
There was little to no resistance in the one on the right. So much so that it would sink down all on its own without any force.

Dang the ones on my Mazda were not even that rusty. I still did quick struts tho, a huge improvement.

That would make things easier, but ready assembled items weren’t available. Not too much hassle to swap over, just needed a little help from the mildly dodgy spring compressors.

They still had some resistance, but well past the point of needing doing.

Road salt and a damp atmosphere aren’t fun.

Nice work! Compressing springs is one of those things that terrifies me.

I just had new struts installed in my 406 as well. The old ones seemed original; 350k km and 19 years. Clearly worn, but not leaking or overly rusty.

Please tell me you got new springs too, those springs look sketchy.
